Progresso, ordem, crise e regeneração: do Ultimato à Ditadura Militar

Resumo: Having in mind the historiographic production of the last decades on contemporary Portuguese reality, the article focuses on the differences and similarities between the final phase of constitutional monarchy, the First Republic, Sidonism, and the military dictatorship. The concepts of conservative liberal regime, demoliberal regime, democratic regime and dictatorial (authoritarian or totalitarian) regime are thereby put to the test. Some of the ideas and practices, the virtualities and limitations present in the Portuguese political system and “civil society” between 1910 and 1926 are also highlighted.; Tendo em conta produção historiográfica divulgada nas últimas décadas sobre a realidade portuguesa contemporânea, procura-se analisar as diferenças e as semelhanças entre a etapa final da Monarquia Constitucional, a Primeira República, o Sidonismo e a Ditadura Militar. Utilizam-se, para o efeito, os conceitos de regime liberal conservador, regime demoliberal, regime democrático e regime ditatorial (autoritário ou totalitário). Tenta-se, igualmente, salientar algumas das concepções e práticas, das virtualidades e limitações presentes no sistema político e na “sociedade civil” portugueses entre 1910 e 1926.
