- Resumo
- This article deals with the government of the Portuguese Inquisition in the time of Grand Inquisitor Pedro de Lencastre (October 1671 to April 1673), and try to understand, in this exercise, as the Holy Office was related the difficult political, social and economic conditions experienced in the kingdom during the war of the Restoration and, more particularly, in the initial period of the regency of prince Don Pedro. The approach began by contextualizing the time lived in the kingdom and sought to reconstruct the life of general inquisitor and head of Duchy of Aveiro, trying to understand what were the impacts and the guidelines of his government in Portuguese Inquisition.
- Este artigo versa sobre o governo da Inquisição portuguesa, no tempo do inquisidor geral D. Pedro de Lencastre, período que se compreende entre outubro de 1671 a abril de 1673, e tenta perceber como o Tribunal do Santo Ofício se relacionou com a difícil conjuntura política, social e económica vividas no reino no período da guerra da Restauração e, mais particularmente, no período inicial da regência do príncipe D. Pedro, seu primo. A abordagem iniciou‑se pela contextualização do tempo vivido no reino e toda a investigação e considerações tecidas, procuraram reconstruir a vida deste homem, inquisidor geral e também titular de uma das mais prestigiadas casais ducais do reino por volta do século XVII ‑ a casa do ducado de Aveiro ‑ tentando perceber nesse exercício, quais foram os impactos e as linhas de orientação do seu governo quer para os destinos do reino quer para a história da Inquisição portuguesa.
